Capacitor Functions in UPS Systems
Input Rectifier Filter
Filters the rectified AC input to provide clean DC to the bus. Must handle continuous ripple current and comply with input harmonic limits (IEC 61000-3-12).
DC-Link Energy Storage
The largest capacitor bank in the UPS. Provides ride-through during utility-to-battery transfer, and smooths the DC bus under varying load conditions.
Output Inverter Filter
Filters the PWM output of the inverter to produce a clean sinusoidal output voltage. Low THD is critical for sensitive loads like servers and medical equipment.
